CIGO’s 1926 Census Campaign Wins Irish Cabinet and Government Approval

CIGO is delighted to report on the latest news about its long-running campaign to obtain early release of the 1926 Irish census. Heritage Minister, Jimmy Deenihan TD, who has a deep personal interest in genealogy and is certainly a true friend to Irish genealogists, confirmed in a statement given in the Dáil that the Cabinet has now approved the plan to digitise the Irish 1926 census returns. ‘Legislation’, he said, ‘would be enacted by June or July this year’.
