‘When the shopping was good – Woolworths and the Irish main street’, by Barbara Walsh. Barbara Walsh has written a well-received book that gives a lively and entertaining account of this distinctive chain-store’s retailing style in Ireland and its impact on the Irish Main Street. Her talk is a fascinating account of the history of an iconic institution in ‘the Irish main street’. Barbara Walsh is an Irish author and historian who gained a doctorate in history from Lancaster University in 1999. has enjoyed a long and productive career which encompassed a number of creative outlets as a writer, artist, broadcaster and multi-media producer.
